The number of towns and cities in the UK that are affordable for first-time buyers has increased to the highest level for over 10 years.
The average amount paid for a property by a first-time buyer is now affordable based on the average wage in 54% of towns and cities. This figure has increased by 14% when compared with last year. The average deposit a first-time buyer is paying has also decreased from last year.
Halifax has cited the North East as the most affordable region in the UK with the North West coming in second. London however has no areas that are affordable to first-time buyers.
The lender also announced that first-time buyer numbers rose to approximately 114,000 in the first half of this year which is up by more than a third when compared with 2011.
